TAKE MY HAND WALK WITH ME
Give Me the Sky
I wish not to be as the fallen ones,
foolish angels that loved the flesh
and forsook their natural creation
of winds of mercy.
But why can’t I be
as a feather on the wind,
rising with ease
on the back of a breeze?
To go up, climb up,
higher, higher to live on high,
with the ease of the winds,
to fly and not fall.
Let the ground fall away,
let the world spin and quake,
let the earth and the oceans
fight amongst themselves…
just give me the sky.
And I shall dress myself in clouds,
bathe in the storms.
The four winds will be my consorts,
lightning my lovers.
If only I could forsake my nature of creation.
How I wish I was more than dust, more than a mortal,
a man of clay.
Ain’t No Angel
Here I am with my crooked halo,
dancin’ a jig
to some red-hot blues.
Got crooked wings
couldn’t fly straight if I wanted to,
but I can shake my tail to real cool tunes.
He’s flying high in the sky
on a wing and a prayer.
Deacon Righteous got a sweet thang,
playin’ truth or dare.
Holy sweet things, young, tender,
like pretty babies born again—
shout “Hallelujah” with lover’s passion
as the preacher moans, “Amen.”
A lover with a halo
cocked to the side—
whether deacon, preacher, or little ol’ me
with sexy, crooked wings,
there’s no place to hide.

The Weight of Memory
Memories
What kind of mind lives in memories,
painful and sweet?
To live in the past
with people who have passed,
lonely and alone,
walking in a veil,
only smiling when memories arrive
to lift the veil away, for a time.
It is not good,
but until life brings new, better memories,
these are the happiest I’ve got.
In A Little Corner
of My Mind
Deep in a hidden place of my mind
A little child resides
Alone and fatherless
Lost in a world that’s dark and cries
Little boy afraid to live
Afraid to die
Dwells in a little corner of my mind
“Cry baby, cry
Mama’s goin’ wipe those tears away
As always
You fatherless child
Come rock in Mama’s arms
Grow to be a man
I’ll take care of you
As always
You fatherless boy”
In the world
A child in a man’s mind
Don’t know how to live
Just waitin’ to die
“Cry baby, cry
You fatherless child”
Deep in a little corner of my mind

LIFE’S CHAIN
Life’s Chain
Yesterday is gone, and today is here.
Tomorrow awaits you.
Like a chain through the years, gathering its links—
one by one,
day by day,
month by month,
year by year.
And you stop to count its links:
happy links,
sad links,
funny links,
joyful links.
There are some links you can’t remember
how they got there,
but they needed you
Some links you tried to let go,
but they held on tight
because they needed you.
Or you gathered the links
because you needed them.
No matter how it happened,
it created a bond
to teach,
to be a family,
to be a friend,
to reach out,
to care.
It held tight together as our bond,
bringing us through
storms,
high winds,
changing times,
weathering it all.
It brought out the best of times.
Keep adding links to your chain—
you have many more.
We don’t know what tomorrow brings.
Just remember:
You are with us always.
We are bonded together like a chain.
“It depends on which hole you are in…”
“Don’t let the appearance of people fool you!...
They’ll do it every time.”
“People know how they treat you.”

doesn’t determine how they live”
“If a person ignores you,
then say nothing to them”
Quotes That Remind Me

A Look Inside:
Trust
"Verily! Allah commands that you should
render back the trust to those to whom
they are due…" Surah 4:58.
No trust no faith. Imagine yourself standing on top of a bench with arms folded and your eyes shut. A group of people standing behind you urging you to fall backward and that they'll catch you. The feeling of anxiety starts to surge through your stomach; your heart begins pumping fast and sweat spring off your face in little-wet balls. A voice in your head is telling you to trust them; another voice is saying "forget it! No way." Like a fork in a road, you find yourself being split in half, but you can only choose one way to go. A decision must be made; trust or no trust? Begin with trust. Without trust, you will fail. Where there is no trust one will find the effects of doubt, suspicion, uncertainty, mistrust. If you submit yourself to God as a Muslim then you must trust Allah. You must trust him through the difficulties in life, and the good times in life. You must trust Allah in all areas of life, good and bad. Allah will guide you, comfort you and protect you when you trust him in all things.
Think to yourself in times of decision, "I will trust God and I will fall backward into His strong loving arms." Trust.
"And he (Satan) swore to them both
(Adam and Eve) that he was their sincere advisor"
Surah 7:21
The life of man is as a budding flower. In the bloom of his life, he is beautiful and young, experiencing the joys of living with all the foolishness he desires; living seamlessly immortal days of youth until time touches him, and he notices that he is growing old. If it is God's will, his knowledge and experiences will develop into maturity that will in time grow to become wisdom. He will become like those before him, a storehouse of knowledge and experiences for those seeking truth and understanding.
The life of a man is as a withering flower. Once, being beautiful and young, he now stands gray and bent. Pray that Allah grants you guidance as you travel through life's journey. Seek to become wise and not a foolish old man. Seek advice from those whom Allah has made wise and be ever mindful that age does not equal wisdom. Choose your advisers carefully.

Peace is…
A soft breeze brushing against the soul
a friend holding my hand
Peace is…
A word of faith
a prayer to The Loving One
Peace is…
A quiet place of perfume and beauty
A God who cares and loves me.
PEACE IS…
“Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.”
